The Responsibility Of Business For Future National Growth.

Let me begin by making its simple but nevertheless accurate statement of fact, namely, that the major responsibility of business to society is to create economic wealth.
One only has to look around the world today to see quite clearly that in countries where business has been successful and has flourished,National prosperity has either followed it or gone hand in hand with it.Japan and west Germany, with their dramatic post-war recovery , are obvious example of the fact:while the USA owes its post -war economic dominance to the success of its commercial and industrial enterprises and its advanced technology.
Conversely the economic plight of Britain over the past five years bears Britain over the past five years bears a direct relationship to the failure of the business sector, albeit for some reason out of its direct control, to generate sufficient home and world trade to sustain the economy, keep full employment and help maintain a four-able balance of trade.
Having thus stated my firm view that indeed business does hold considerable responsibility for national growth. it is appropriate to ask ourselves what we mean by growth particularity in the context of Nigerian today. Relating it solely to statistics such as gross domestic product.balance of trade and strength of the national currency, is only part albeit an Important part of the meaning.

In discussions on Nigerian's growing economy,it is not possible to avoid for long using the world ''development''for it is the development of the country's infrastructure and its environment which must be establishment before real stable growth is achieved. We must also consider whether growth need necessarily  mean prosperity and if so how is this prosperity distributed.

In the democratic society we are living in today, the influence of commerce and industry is with us everywhere. It is the major motive force for most of the activities in our society and it is this influence which gives business not just an economic responsibility but a very real social one as well.
Before i deliberate in details on this subject, one very basic, obvious but nevertheless often ignored fact must be quiet clear;-Business can only contribute to national prosperity if it is allowed to prosper by the economic policies of the government of the country in question.

Without profit and a positive cash flow, no business is in a position to contribute to anything other than its own self preservation.without the guarantee of reasonable return on its capital invested will be nothings.
